AIM is currently serving as the public outreach and information consultant for the I-5 Riverfront Reconnection project. The project will reconnect Old Sacramento and downtown with the riverfront through the construction of the 2nd Street and Capitol Mall Connector Bridge. The project will also improve facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians on Capitol Mall and the O Street Bridge. Old Sacramento, surrounded by the river and Interstate 5, has only three entrances and exits for cars. The construction of the 2nd Street and Capitol Mall Connector Bridge planned to close one exit, which had the potential to impact businesses in Old Sacramento, already dealing with numerous downtown construction projects and traffic impacts.
Prior to construction, the project team met with property and business owners in Old Sacramento to explain the project, answer questions, and share plans to implement “open for business” signage and ways for business owners to receive information during construction. The goal of the meeting was to ensure there was an open line of communication between the project team and Old Sacramento businesses, and to address questions and concerns in advance of construction. In addition, AIM facilitated a community open house meeting and implemented a public information campaign to ensure the community-at-large was aware of the project and upcoming traffic changes. As the project progresses, AIM continues to provide updates to business owners through the Old Sacramento Business Association. Additionally, AIM develops and distributes monthly email newsletters to the community with project updates, ongoing work, and upcoming traffic detours. AIM is currently planning and coordinating a ribbon cutting event for the grand opening of the 2nd Street and Capitol Mall Connector Bridge.
- AIM was instrumental in developing and implementing successful communications strategies that highlighted the District's efforts to both a local and regional audience.
