Water Forum, Communications and Outreach

AIM is currently serving as the on-going public information and strategic communications consultant for the Water Forum, a public-private collaborative focused on assuring reliable and safe water supply for the Sacramento region’s long-term growth and economic health while preserving the fishery, wildlife, recreational and aesthetic values of the lower American River.
As part of the public information and outreach effort, AIM developed an innovative and user friendly agency website. The new website features comprehensive information about the water conservation and river restoration initiatives undertaken by the Water Forum and member agencies. The website also features a real-time river map displaying the temperature, river flow, and storage capacity of the lower American River and Folsom Reservoir. The river map allows water managers, environmentalists, and community members to access vital river conditions in one convenient location.
AIM develops informational materials for a variety of audiences, including the public, water managers, and elected officials, which highlight the Water Forum’s accomplishments and innovative programs. AIM tailors the message to each audience to ensure that complex information is easily communicated and understood. The Water Forum was recently recognized by the American Water Resources Association for excellence in Water Resource Management, including it’s 22 year history of implementing water conservation and restoration programs, serving as a model of collaboration for the region, and implementing public information and involvement campaigns.
AIM has also provided facilitation services for the negotiation between Water Forum members related to amending the Purveyor Specific Agreements (PSAs) for the City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Suburban Water District. These negotiations reflected the potential changes in rules for delivering wholesale water from the City of Sacramento.
AIM is also working with the Water Forum to develop an outreach plan and key messaging for the Modified Flow Management Standard, which provides new guidance for managing releases and water temperature in the lower American River.
As California enters the fourth year of a historic drought, AIM has assisted the Water Forum with media relations and messaging for local, regional, and national publications, in addition to industry specific publications.
